This course opened my eyes to the art and science behind visual storytelling, blending technical precision with creative expression. I delved into the fundamental and advanced aspects of cinematography and editing, which reshaped my understanding of filmmaking. The program began with an exploration of cinematography fundamentals, where I learned about the key principles of visual composition. Concepts like framing, lighting, and camera angles became tools for conveying emotions and narratives. I gained an appreciation for how elements such as symmetry, rule of thirds, and perspective could transform a simple shot into a visually compelling story. I learned how to manipulate light to enhance storytelling. I was introduced to professional-grade cameras, their settings, and functionalities. From adjusting exposure and focus to experimenting with shutter speed and aperture, I developed a nuanced understanding of how to capture high-quality visuals. I also learned about camera movements such as pans, tilts, and tracking shots, which added dynamism to my visual narratives. I also learned about color grading, a process that enhances the visual aesthetic and emotional impact of the video. A highlight of the certification was the opportunity to work on a real-world project. Through this project, I also began to understand how visual storytelling can contribute to community development and impact.Creating short films allowed me to apply my learning practically, from pre-production planning to post-production editing.
